The book
Ninety years after the beginning of the first world war, here is a book
that helps us not to forget. An original work within the field of historical
studies, this publication is intended to be both a book to remember the
many "poor men" who immolated their lives in that terrible tragedy
and a tour guide-book to visit the trenches, once places of hard and cruel
fighting and now quiet and safe paths to walk along on the beautiful karst
plateau.
"Trenches of war, paths of peace": this is how Col. Schaumann
introduces this handy guide, all in colour, with a precise bibliography
and useful information in the appendix. Two experts of the karst war take
us along twelve easy routes (illustrated with colour maps), talking about
history, describing the trails and giving practical tips in order to discover
the remains of the World War I trenches on Trieste's Gorizia's and Slovenia's
karst.
